Talk at TEDx Scottsdale 12/04/2011
On Dirty Things: Art Interventions in Interstitial Places Click this file to see my presentation images and abstract:
My talk features art and interstitial place together as the new urban living room. The historically dirty side of the systems required to make modern desert living possible, water utility canals and flood control corridors, can be demystified and integrated with art to create authentic and personalized engagement with the public. With no ticket price or bar tab, public art tests ideas in urban resilience and aids the humbled citizen, especially important in the new economy in which everyone knows someone who has lost their home or their job, or is living on a "debit card diet." The image shown here is my friend Dayvid LeMmon walking along the drop structure flood control device at Indian Bend Wash--also home to one of Scottsdale's most alluring family of artworks and pedestrian path. I will be among several esteemed speakers at the Urban Placemaking TEDx Dec 7th. CommentsLeave a Reply | Margaret BruningA selection of short writings ArchivesDecember 2011 CategoriesAll | ||||||
